Banana Beet Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/2 beet, peeled and chopped
  • 11/2 tbsp chia seed
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • A few blueberries or sliced strawberries
  • A pinch of hemp hearts

Eat your seasonal colours! This smoothie is not only tasty but beautiful! The rich colours indicate that is is high in antioxidants, which can help to reduce the risk of cancer and toxins in the body. Beets are in season through summer and early fall so is perfect for this time of the year. 

 This recipe is so simple and delicious! It is perfect for breakfast as it is light but energizing. Beets are known to be packed with essential nutrients, and are a great source of fibrefolate (vitamin B9), manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C. Beetroots and beetroot juice have been associated with numerous health benefits, including improved blood flow, lower blood pressure, and increased exercise performance. The honey in this recipe adds sweetness and aids in digestion. The chia seeds load this recipe with protein and healthy omegas. Of course the banana adds sweetness, thickness and carbohydrates.

This recipe is so simple. Just peel the banana and beets. Chop them up into cubes/slices. Toss all ingredients except the hemp hearts and sliced strawberries or blueberries into a blender. Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and rich in colour. Pour into your favourite jar/glass and garnish with sliced fruit and a pinch of hemp hearts.
