When I am looking for a place to shoot I have a few criteria that the location must meet. First, and foremost the place needs to excite me. It needs to have interesting textures, concepts, lights or moodiness that grabs my attention. I also love randomness and a little bit of chaos. It keeps things interesting.

Well, I have a new place for you to check out. It is so random, vibrant and exciting that Jennifer and I spent a whopping 7 hours in this place. I know we are a little excessive and ridiculously slow, but this was a lot. We worked this place until it was no longer workable.

This cafe is Cafe Valor, and it is in the suburbs in Inchon city, and it is magical.  The cafe is the location for several Korean movies and music videos, and when you go there you will see why. It is full of antique furniture, a gym, equipped with a bathtub, a giant bird cage, and a warehouse full of random rooms and objects. I should also add that the warehouse produces smoke every 15 minutes so your photos have an added touch.

The cafes are into two buildings, you must visit the first building and purchase a beverage or snack. You need to make sure you keep your receipt because you need to show it to enter the second building. The first building is where you can sit down and enjoy your purchases.  There are a basement full shooting sections that include a gym surrounded by a metal fence.  There are also mirrors and random props scattering the room for you to use.

The third floor has sectioned off rooms with various themes. The main room is full of a giant birdcage. We definitely had way too much fun with that damn bird cage. Anyways, there is also a large patio you can sit on in the summer. It looks lovely, but since the weather is freezing, we kept out antics indoors.

The next area we spent probably over two hours goofing off in. This section of the warehouse is full of antique furniture and bookshelves. We definitely took advantage of the mock Oval Office and spent some time impersonating past and present Presidents.

The second warehouse is purely awesome. It is full of rooms that are in several popular K-dramas. There is a grand piano, a mock living room, stage, recording studio, and hall of lights. And you can use all of it. The staff members periodically release smoke into the room and the fluorescent lights often change colour.

Although this was by no means one of my professional shoots I wanted to give you guys some ideas about what this cafe has to offer. If you come by yourself with your DSLR you can easily shoot there without being hassled. However, you need to be discreet. The cafe does have a policy about commercial photography, so you need to abide by that policy. Secondly, I would advise against coming in groups of photographers. You need to get a pass. However, if you arrive early like Jennifer and I did, we managed to use the cafe to its full potential.   Just be sure you are mindful of other patrons, be courteous and you won’t have any issues.
